Franklin Templeton ETFs
Franklin Resources · San Mateo, USA / London · funds domiciled in Ireland
Franklin Templeton entered the European ETF market late and chose price as its wedge, launching core equity trackers at fees that undercut the incumbents and occasionally waiving them outright to build assets. For a long-horizon investor that is a real advantage, provided the fund is large enough to trade cleanly. The range is small and core-focused — world, US, Europe, emerging markets, some bonds and a handful of thematics — so it works as a cheap building block rather than a one-stop shop.
What Franklin does well
- Among the lowest headline TERs in UCITS core equity
- Simple, physically replicating index funds with no structural surprises
- Backed by a very large traditional asset manager
- Accumulating share classes on the main building blocks
What to check first
Funds are younger and smaller than rivals, so spreads and tracking difference matter more than the headline fee. Introductory fee waivers can end, and savings-plan availability is patchier.
Fee-sensitive investors building a core portfolio who will check spreads before trading.
